Nick Drake would've become a pensioner today.

Today, influential songwriter & guitarist Nick Drake would've turned 65.  On BBC Radio 2's Folk Show (7pm tonight), Mark Radcliffe dedicates this weeks live programme to Nick.
During his lifetime Nicks career has affected drastically by this depression & reluctance to perform in public. However, 39 years after his death his music is enjoyed by a wide audience.
Nick only recorded 3 studio albums but those albums were stunningly beautiful with much feeling & atmosphere, creating a blueprint for subsequent generations of songwriters to follow.
In the show tonight, Mark Radcliffe is joined by Joe Boyd who reflects of the life & legacy of Nick Drake. Joe produced 2 of Nick albums as well as some for Fairport Convention, The Incredible String Band (a particular favourite of mine) & Pink Floyd.

This YouTube video is from a 1969 performance during John Peels radio programme......enjoy!

  1. Wonderful news Joe Boyd mentioned in the show that Nick Drakes albums are being reissued on heavyweight vinyl next month.
These pressings will be mastered from analogue tapes & so I can imagine them sounding beautiful.
Previous reissues have been sourced digitally which kind of defeats the object of having a vinyl copy rather than CD.
