Slash opts for fan funded soundtrack album

Slash is the latest artist to bypass the traditional major label model and opt for the fan-funded alternative. The Guns n Roses guitar hero is using PledgeMusic to raise money for his next project.

Slash is a co-producer of the movie 'Nothing Left To Fear' and is asking fans to contribute to the costs of the soundtrack via PledgeMusic.

In a statement at PedgeMusic Slash says:

'As a co-producer of both the motion picture Nothing Left To Fear and the soundtrack to the film, I've been heavily involved in every step of the creation of both the film and the score. I've decided to make this soundtrack exclusively available on PledgeMusic as a way to gain a more personal interaction with you guys, the fans. I am a huge fan of horror films ever since i was a little kid in England, and now I'm excited to share the process of what goes into creating projects like this.

Alice Cooper's view of Mumford & Sons

Alice Cooper has claimed that branding Mumford and Sons a rock band would be an "offence to rock 'n' roll".

Speaking to Fuse, the shock-rock singer said that modern musicians were "afraid to be in a rock band" and claimed that the current generation need to "quit eating vegetarian food" and "eat a steak" instead.

Asked for his views on current rock music, he said: "I just feel that this whole generation needs to all eat a steak. Maybe they just need to quit eating vegetarian food and get out there and get some blood pumping in their system. Rock 'n' roll is not about 'Happy happy happy, everything's okay. We're The Lumineers, let's clog dance.' Hey, there's a place for that. If I wanted to see a great clog dancing band, I'd see The Lumineers."

The A-Z of record labels : Abbott Records

Abbott Records was an American record label operated by music promoter and producer Fabor Robison (1911-1986) from 1951 to about 1958. Abbott Records released mainly Country and Western Music, Rockabilly and—towards the end of its existence—mainstream Pop vocal selections, enjoying considerable chart success for a label of its modest means.

After serving a stint in the U.S. Army during World War II, Arkansas native Fabor Robison settled in Southern California and began to work as a talent scout. In late 1949 or early 1950, Robison discovered singer Johnny Horton, who had lately won a talent contest in Texas and had returned to his native Los Angeles, bought Western clothes, and was looking for a gig. Robison placed Horton on Cliffie Stone's Hometown Jamboree program, based out of Pasadena, California, which aired on KXLA on radio and KCOP (later KLAC) on television. Robison also set up a recording deal for Horton with the tiny Cormac Records label, but that concern soon folded. Disgusted, Robison decided to found his own record label and found an investor in pharmacist Sid Abbott; Robison subsequently named the label after his partner. At first, Abbott Records existed solely to record Horton, and the label's first ten releases were devoted to him, though some were duets with Billy Barton. None of the initial slate of releases attracted much in the way of attention, and in mid-1952 Robison sold Horton's recording contract to Mercury Records, based in Chicago though it had a division in Shreveport, Louisiana.

Nazareth singer collapses on stage

Nazareth's lead singer, Dan McCafferty, was only 30 seconds into the first song of the band's Tuesday night show at the Cranbrook Curling Centre in Cranbrook, Canada when he collapsed to the stage.

McCafferty had complained of breathing difficulties before the show, causing the starting time to be delayed from 9:30 to 11:00 PM. Fans were still disgruntled about the cancellation; however, promoter Issac Hockley tried to put things in perspective, telling the local Cranbrook Townsman 'We've got to remember we're talking about a person here. Number one is his safety.'

As you may or may not know, everyone’s favorite 90s nerd rockers Ben Folds Five have released their first (first?!) live album, appropriately in uncreatively titled Live. The album dropped June 4th of this year, but the vinyl format will be released on July 9th.

The tracks on Live were recorded during the band’s reunion tour, The Sound of the Life of the Mind. Post their 2001 break-up, Ben Folds Five reunited in a one-night stand concert in September 2008. Then, in 2011, the reunited briefly again to record a few tracks from Ben Folds’s solo album The Best Imitation of Myself: A Retrospective. And then, at the 2012 Mountain Jam festival, the band reunited again for a live performance. During the summer of 2012, they also played at Bonnaroo and Summerfest. It was then that they announced the release of a new album and a fall tour, both of which ended up being The Sound of the Life of the Mind.
