Musicians including Ringo Starr, Calvin Harris and Slash have congratulated Scotsman Andy Murray on becoming the first male Wimbledon champion in 77 years.
Murray secured the historic title with a straight stets victory over world Number One Novak Djokovic on Centre Court yesterday, making him the first man to win the Wimbledon Men's Singles title since Fred Perry in 1936. It is reported that over 17 million people tuned in to watch the Scot write himself into the history books with many musicians watching either at home or court-side.
Among the artists to congratulate Murray on his victory was Beatles drummer Ringo Starr, who wrote: "Congratulations Andy Murray won Wimbledon well done Peace and love." Meanwhile, Slash appeared to mistake Britain for England when he tweeted: "Congratulations to @Andy_Murray on his 1st Wimbledon title. That's huge for him. & England. Bravo!"
Other musicians who joined in the praise of Murray on social media were The Strokes' Albert Hammond Jr, Calvin Harris, Tinie Tempah, Ellie Goulding and Chris Wolstenholme of Muse.
