As you may or may not know, everyone’s favorite 90s nerd rockers Ben Folds Five have released their first (first?!) live album, appropriately in uncreatively titled Live. The album dropped June 4th of this year, but the vinyl format will be released on July 9th.
The tracks on Live were recorded during the band’s reunion tour, The Sound of the Life of the Mind. Post their 2001 break-up, Ben Folds Five reunited in a one-night stand concert in September 2008. Then, in 2011, the reunited briefly again to record a few tracks from Ben Folds’s solo album The Best Imitation of Myself: A Retrospective. And then, at the 2012 Mountain Jam festival, the band reunited again for a live performance. During the summer of 2012, they also played at Bonnaroo and Summerfest. It was then that they announced the release of a new album and a fall tour, both of which ended up being The Sound of the Life of the Mind.
Live features several tracks from TSotLofM (eh, I tried) – “Erase Me,” “Sky High,” “Draw a Crowd,” and “Do It Anyway” – as well as some old favorites like “Narcolepsy,” “Song for the Dumped,” and, of course, “Brick.”
Again, Live will be released on vinyl on July 9th. It is currently available for listening/download and pre-order.
