Queens Of The Stone Age frontman Josh Homme has spoken about the new Arctic Monkeys album 'AM', on which he appears.
After Alex Turner contributed vocals and lyrics to the current Queens Of The Stone Age album '…Like Clockwork', Josh Homme has returned the favour by contributing vocals to the band’s forthcoming fifth collection, due for release on September 9.
Now, Homme has hinted at what is in store from the record. Speaking at the Rock For People festival at Hradec Kralove in the Czech Republic last weekend, Homme said: “I sang on the new Arctic Monkeys record. It’s a really cool, sexy after-midnight record. It’s called 'AM', so I guess that’s really obvious. And it’s really good. It’s really good. It’s not disco [as such], but it’s like a modern, dancefloor sexy record. It’s really good."
Asked whether Turner had taken him for a night on the tiles in Sheffield in return for Homme entertaining the Monkeys in the California desert, he replied: "No, but I’m okay with that!"
Homme also confirmed that Queens are likely to follow-up ‘…Like Clockwork’ in quicker time than the six years it took to follow 'Era Vulgaris'. But he said the band were keen to maintain an element of surprise: "One of the coolest things about doing this is to surprise people. It's to come out of nowhere. The music world is almost like just a huge dark backdrop, and you wait for something shiny to come out that you wanna hold onto. And it’s gone so quickly."
Homme continued: "You make a record and the initial excitement is there, and ideally you make a record that lasts and lasts and lasts, but you have no way of knowing if that's gonna happen. And I think because we took six years we should jump in again. I don't know what that is, but I never tell you exactly when that is because it’s part of what’s cool about this whole thing. This is a business of surprising and exciting people and making them forget what’s normal, and I would never ruin that by saying exactly when that moment is. But we will, and hopefully it’ll be [a] much happier... record."
