Beady Eye new single

After scoring their highest UK Album Chart position to date, topping the Independent Record Store Charts and performing a much talked about secret slot at Glastonbury last month, Beady Eye today announce new single 'Shine A Light' - out on August 19th on Columbia Records.

Driven forward by Bo Diddley-esqe drum beats, gritty bass and explosive rhythmic guitars, 'Shine a Light' takes the listener on an intoxicating journey through intricate and expansive soundscapes and cosmic textures, showcasing Liam's vocals at their rawest and blistering best.

Vinyl only music night showcases DJ's talent

Mark Furukawa, left, and Andy Inglis sit among crates of records inside Dr. Disc, Furukawa's downtown music store. Both men are involved in organizing Discography, a vinyl-only DJ night that debuted on Sunday.

A mix CD, in a custom-printed cardboard sleeve designed to look like a long-play vinyl album, isn't your average party invitation.

This is an LP which complemented the "Living in the material world" documentary from Martin Scorsese last year.
The first thing I noticed was "Volume 1" after the title which made me think "Oooh, could this be part of a set?" After a bit of digging online however, it appears that, as of now, there is no volume 2.

Free digital downloads are helping the resurgence of the vinyl LP

Britain has seen a resurgence in the sales of vinyl records. In the first six months of this year, the public bought 324,000 vinyl albums – almost as many as were sold during the whole of 2012, according to The Official Charts Company. A higher quality of vinyl manufacture is one reason for the revival but some record companies have been incentivising record sales with free digital copies and this is believed to have had an even greater impact.

Ben Folds Five Live on vinyl

As you may or may not know, everyone’s favorite 90s nerd rockers Ben Folds Five have released their first (first?!) live album, appropriately in uncreatively titled Live. The album dropped June 4th of this year, but the vinyl format will be released on July 9th.

The tracks on Live were recorded during the band’s reunion tour, The Sound of the Life of the Mind. Post their 2001 break-up, Ben Folds Five reunited in a one-night stand concert in September 2008. Then, in 2011, the reunited briefly again to record a few tracks from Ben Folds’s solo album The Best Imitation of Myself: A Retrospective. And then, at the 2012 Mountain Jam festival, the band reunited again for a live performance. During the summer of 2012, they also played at Bonnaroo and Summerfest. It was then that they announced the release of a new album and a fall tour, both of which ended up being The Sound of the Life of the Mind.
